THE RUN DOWN:
Major League Baseball in 2020 was a season for some that was a farce and for others it was redemption. This season saw only 60 games, unusual rules, opt outs, and had no fans in the stands; yet the season carried on with the Los Angeles Dodgers being crowned World Series Champions. Congratulations to one of the best teams ever assembled.
The Dodgers were the best team in baseball in 2020 and they proved it. This is a team that was built to challenge the most wins in any season let alone one with only 60 games. They went 43-17 and beat the AL team with the best record (Tampa Bay 40-20) in the World Series. Seemed unlikely that this season could produce a World Series where both the AL and the NL representative had the best records in the leagues. Consider that the Miami Marlins made the playoffs and won a series (vs Chicago Cubs)! The NL Central had 4 teams of the 5 make the playoffs. LAD starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw finally won his championship. It makes for a good story, but he pitched better so he was not just another pitcher on the team, but he was a contributor. The Dodgers were the 5th best pitching team and 2nd best hitting team. No team scored more runs than the Dodgers. Newly acquired OF Mookie Betts finished 3rd in all of baseball in WAR standings and led the NL. A resurgent SS Corey Seager batted .307 while hitting 15 HRs! This team was overall sound with stars all over the field.
