Los Angeles Angels vs Oakland A's - Free Pick (David Hess)
I will look to post a free pick here every day. Last night I won with The Yankees over the nationals. Let's try and make it two in a row.
The Angels are an improved team this year but they should still fall short of a playoff spot. They have a nice offense that is led by Mike Trout, who nearly sat out this year. Andrew Heaney will get the start and he struggled last year, going 4-6 with a 4.91 ERA in 18 starts. He is just 7-14 with a 5.01 ERA in 39 games (38 starts) on the road in his career and he is 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA in his carer against the A's. Still, I see this very good Oakland offense having a good showing against him in this one. The Oakland A's will be sending out Frankie Montas and he was a very solid 9-2 with a 2.63 ERA last year, including 4-0 with a 3.00 ERA here at home. He is also 2-0 with a 2.96 ERA in seven games (four starts) against the Halos. LA does have a solid offense, but they will be without Anthony Rendon, who they brought in during the offseason. He is a big loss for this team right now. The A's are 69-28 in their last 97 games as a home favorite, while the Angels are 15-36 in their last 51 games as an underdog and 7-19 in their last 26 vs. American League West.
